Applying for Financial Aid

  1. Apply for admission to OCSI. (no cost)
  2. After approval for admission, request and fill out financial aid application.
  3. Upon notification of financial aid award, register for school.

*NOTE: Spaces in classes are not reserved until registration fees are paid (step #3 above). Please be aware that if class space is limited it may be advisable to register your child(ren) immediately rather than wait until after notification of your financial aid award.

Our Goal: An Education Any Family Can Afford!!

At OCSI we're aware that education costs are already high and rising higher every year. Our commitment to you, the parent, is to ensure that every tuition dollar (and yen!) is spent wisely and in the interests of the best K-12 education possible.

Financial Aid at OCSI

Tuition rates for SY2009-10 are ¥540,000 (Elem.) and ¥605,000 (Secondary). OCSI is far less expensive than other accredited international schools in Japan (see a comparison here), but for many our already-low rates are still too high, and this is where OCSI's Financial Aid program comes in. OCSI families are able to apply for financial aid at any time (ask at the OCSI office), and each year over ¥10,000,000 of financial aid is awarded to those in need. The following table shows the total amounts awarded in recent years:

Financial Aid 2006-present
SY 2006-07
SY2007-08
SY2008-09
¥8,855,000
¥11,605,000
¥12,575,000

* ¥1,000,000 = approx. $10,000

The Real Cost of Education

Over the years OCSI has consistently been able to provide a quality education at low tuition rates that are well below the average for similar schools in Japan, and also below the average, per-student, cost of education in the U.S. ($7552). This is possible because God has truly blessed OCSI through the following ways:

  1. Dedicated OCSI teachers take a pay cut of up to 50% (compared to typical teachers' salaries in Japan and the US)
  2. Dedicated OCSI teachers also raise extra funding for support of OCSI!
  3. Dedicated OCSI students, parents, teachers, and alumni give yearly through the ADVANCE Campaign (and other donation programs) to support OCSI's educational program.
